Wallet Watching – March 2016

It’s that time of the month! No, it’s budget time! A little wallet watching, budget balancing, money minding fun. I, too, have moments of weakness when it comes to spending money. Money which I have, but don’t need to spend. Let’s do Wallet Watching – February 2016. By Wallet Engineer

In March the budget was “OK”. Spent a fair amount on vacation related activities (tickets to MN, trip to Moab, camping supplies for Moab). Otherwise the budget was pretty alright.

Income – $3486 = 1335 + 1000 + (750) + 400

  • $1335= set aside amount for all non-house-related expenses
  • $1000 = set aside for “housing” — mortgage, interest, insurance, taxes. Excludes home improvement
  • $750 = investment deposits, shown blue below
  • $400 = savings (generally saved for large bills, capital expenses, job loss)
  • $0 = tutor side hustle (after website’s cut). Shown below in blue.

Investments – $750

Upcoming expenses (scheduled or desirable) : kitchen stuff (flooring, DIY concrete countertop, knock out a wall, add a LVL beam, dishwasher, move pocket door to bathroom), bathroom interior paint, two ceiling fans, radiant floor heating. replace patio, add patio railing, Murphy bed? New front screen door. Replace back door and lock. Install raised beds for garden. Pressure regulator for the main – PSI too high.

Auto Insurance

Gas and Fuel

Took a tip down to Moab, UT for the weekend.

Phone, Movie, GYM

My phone bill has dropped dramatically since I dropped Verizon.

Alcohol and Bars

Hooo-weee, I did not overspend.

Bunch of camping food, smores, etc. Still not too bad.

Fast Food and Restaurants

Actually only $75. We went to Fondue place with some friends. Delicious, but I don’t know that I need to go again. I’d rather spend $30 on sushi or dinner and a movie. Still fun. Took hours, though. And it was hella snowy.

Mortgage and Rent

I BOUGHT A HOUSE. Mortgage and paying off my PMI 20% down.  About 3.5 years left on the 20% down which will then add about $425 per month to my cash flow when paid off, which will then go into the stock account.

Home Improvement

I spent $250 on xeric (low water) plants. I spent $50 on a 0.8 gallon per flush toilet, and the rest is Home Depot regular improvement stuff.

Normal bill is $30. Gigabit internet through the city will be here between MarchJune of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! July of 2015?? Looks like August. Looks like October. Not even close. As of today (11/5) they finally made some progress. 1500days got his fiber. (02/08)My brother is hooked up. They’re a block away! Seriously, what the fuck is up with Longmont fiber installation?
